Frequently Asked Questions

How do I format my posts?

We support Markdown for formatting posts and comments. You can find a complete guide here.

What are Diamonds and how do they work?

Diamonds are a special way to show deep appreciation for a post you love. Unlike stars, diamonds are a limited resource, which makes them more meaningful.

  • How to Get Diamonds: You earn 2 diamonds every time you publish a new post. Additionally, all users receive a weekly allowance of diamonds (1 for regular users, 3 for moderators).
  • How to Use Diamonds: You can award a diamond to any post (except your own) by clicking the 💎 button in the sidebar on the post page.
  • What They Mean: Receiving a diamond is a significant compliment from the community. You can track how many diamonds you have to give and how many you've received in total on the My Stats page.
What is the Community Spotlight?

The Community Spotlight is a special shoutout that appears on the homepage, chosen by our admin team. Each month, we select a user who exemplifies the positive and constructive spirit of our community through their excellent writing and friendly engagement. It's our way of saying "thank you" and highlighting the amazing people who make this platform great.

What is the "Random Act of Kindness" button?

The "Random Act of Kindness" button in the footer is a special feature designed to spread encouragement. When you click it, the system will take you to a random post that has received little or no engagement (no stars, diamonds, or comments). It's a fun way to discover new authors and leave a kind word for someone who might need it, ensuring that no one's work goes unseen.

How do I change my profile picture or bio?

You can update your profile picture, bio, and personal links from the "Profile" and "My Links" tabs on your Account page.

What happens when I report a post?

When you report a post, it is sent to our moderation queue. A moderator will review the content and take appropriate action based on our Terms of Service.

Why was my post or comment automatically flagged?

To help maintain a positive and welcoming environment, we use an automated system (Google's Perspective API) to analyze the language in posts and comments. This system calculates a "toxicity score" based on the likelihood that the text could be perceived as abusive, insulting, or disrespectful.

If your content was flagged, it means it crossed a certain threshold. This could be a false positive, in which case we appologize for the inconvienence. The content is still visible but has been added to a queue for our human moderators to review. They will make the final decision. This system helps us proactively find and address potentially harmful language to keep our community safe.

If the content is deemed unfit for our platform, please take the time to review our Terms of Service. We all say things that we later regret, think of this as us saving you from embarassment.
